Prospective Essay

The two concepts that I will take away from this class would have to be the critical inquiry question and coming to terms. The critical inquiry question to me has larger implications to outside of the class room as it is a theory proven to be right or wrong. This relates to my philosophy 101 class on how on how we are proving arguments to be valid or invalid by setting up truth tables or doing proofs to show the logic connecting between each premise to arrive at the final conclusion. Writing a paper is like doing a proof as you want to have logic flowing through out your paper so the reader does not get lost on your train of thought. Your critical inquiry question is a thesis, a conditional statement to prove A then B you need more information than just A and B in your premises which is your analysis and citation packages in writing. The initial critical inquiry question should be proven by the writer and leads to further thinking for others to prove in their own conversations.

`           Coming to terms is similar to the rhetoric of assent because you have to assent to someone else’s writing in order to understand their meaning. The willingness to read something with an open mind is not something everyone can do, and I hope I can be more willing to do this in future classes I have. Coming to terms is accepting what you already know to join the conversation with other scholars to further our own writing and inquiry to better ourselves. It allows us to have new insight into our own perspective on how we view the world. I will come to terms more in general conversations I have by reading what the author truly has to say so I can join more academic conversations. These are two of the major concepts I will take with me outside of English 101 and try to use them on a daily basis.
